History of Scouting America & Troop 290
Scouting was founded by Lord Robert Baden-Powell in England in 1907. The Boy Scouts of America was founded in 1910 by William D. Boyce, followed by the Girl Scouts of America in 1912.
Boy Scouts of America opened their program to children of both genders in 2019 and the organization officially changed its name to Scouting of America in 2025. Troop 290 was founded in 2020. Our Troop is part of the Nolachuckey District of the Sequoyah TN-VA Council of the Scouts of America. It's an exciting time to be a scout!

*Please note a pre-participation physical with health provider signature is needed for events 72 hours or more! Make sure you have filled out all parts of the form (A, B1, B2, C) under "Are You Going to Camp?"
Log all hours that have been pre-approved by your Scoutmaster in Scout Book including hiking, camping, service hours, and conservation hours.
